Top 10 ways to spend your day off in Christchurch

Struggling for an idea of what to get up to on your day off? Need a break from study? Find a few ideas below - whether you’re wanting to burn a bit of cash or just get out and about, you’ll find something for you.

1.)  A walk up Port Hills

The view from Port Hills cannot be missed, whether you go for sunrise or sunset, you can see anywhere from Cathedral Square to Lyttleton Harbour. Bring a group of friends up and get some well needed fresh air.

2.)  Lyttleton Markets

These markets have the most delicious food on your Saturday morning because #treatyoself. I would recommend the bacon buttie and a blueberry muffin washed down with a fresh juice. Then walk it all off around the harbour and have a look at all the boats/ferries around heading to Diamond Harbour.

3.)  Gondola

As the South Island is known for its scenery, the Gondola shows you it all.

4.)  Canoe ride on Avon river

Canoeing down the Avon River it is a must-do with a scenic view into the Botanic Gardens.

5.)  Head to the rugby

The Crusaders will show you an amazing time, with an ambiance that cannot be duplicated. Have a few drinks and head there with a few mates.

6.)  Trip to Akaroa

Only about an hour away, Akaroa is a gorgeous small town with the best fudge shop and the only mini golf you’ll ever need to play.

7.)  Zip-line

Head to Christchurch Adventure Park for an absolute thrill. I hope no one is scared of heights because this ride is bound to get the adrenalin pumping.

8.)  Walk around Cathedral Square

About nine years since the earthquake, Christchurch has built its self-up again and it’s amazing to see the new city and have a walk around on a sunny day!

9.)  Explore the Botanic Gardens

The Botanic Gardens are a must visit whatever kind of day it is. With a few cafes on site, it’s a winter wonderland to escape to for a coffee, or a great place for a walk in the summer!

10.) Explore the slopes at Mt Hutt

Only two hours away, you can make Mt Hutt into a day trip to grab one of the few skiing days we have left this season. Fill up the car with your gear and mates and you’re off to having an awesome day full of snow and most likely a few wipe outs here and there.

There’s something here for everyone, so hope you get out and about and bring some mates, because we all know mates make everything better!

Love,

Nickyy
