Top 5 things to do at Waihi Beach this Summer

I believe that Waihi beach is debatably the best beach town in New Zealand, bold claim but let me explain.

Waihi beach is the perfect size to enjoy some relaxation without being completely cut off from stores and the rest of the world. The township is beautiful and the beach itself is stunning. I have compiled a list of my favourite things to do to hopefully inspire you to visit this beautiful place!

Take a long walk along the beach

This seems like an obvious one but the coastline is simply stunning. I would recommend a sunset walk to take in the beautiful mountains and the colors that reflect off the water are simply breathtaking. The sand at Waihi beach is super soft and perfect to walk barefoot along for miles!

Visit the RSA

The RSA is the main ‘club’ in Waihi and serves up a delicious menu every night. They are situated on the top of a hill overlooking the whole township and the beach so weather you go up for a drink and listen to the live musicians they often host, this is a must check out during your visit.

Take in the windows walk in the Karangahake Gorge

Check out all the mining heritage sites as you take a leisurely stroll through New Zealand native bush. The windows walk takes you through tunnels and over bridges as you explore one of New Zealand’s most beautiful gorges. There are many different tracks to suit all levels of fitness and experience.

Have brunch at the Flat White Café

The only beach front café that prides itself in its order and exciting menu, all whilst you watch the waves lapping to the shore about 50 meters in front of you. The flat white café is famous amount locals and you’ll see exactly why when you check it out for yourself!

Take a trip to Waihi township

Explore the formally mining township by taking a walk around the Martha mine, take in a little bit of shopping or check out the museum for an awesome family day out.

Have I inspired you yet? Waihi is simply stunning and a must see for that summer rode trip or even a family vacation spot. A typical kiwi beach town that allows you to get away from the world and lap up that beautiful sunshine. Don’t forget sunblock and a hat!
